Children of the Americas (COTA) is a nationwide network of volunteers who provide free medical care to children around the world. COTA sends volunteer surgical teams to Guatemala to provide free care for children with all types of medical conditions and injuries. COTA also provides host families for children who travel to the United States for free or reduced cost care, trains medical personnel in Guatemala about complex diseases, and provides follow up care on a case-by-case basis. Volunteers for Inter-American Development Assistance (VIDA) was founded in 1991 in response to a cholera epidemic in Peru. VIDA sends medical supplies to people in need in Latin America, and aids the development of programs that focus on preventing injury and illness. VIDA also helps to motivate other organizations, and works to help them to set and achieve their goals.
